Introduction:
G7 is the Printing and Graphics industry-leading set of specifications for achieving the industry quality standards based on the ISO12647. They have developed, maintained, and published printing guidelines that have since become de facto standards in many pressrooms around the world. The mission of IDEAlliance is to improve communications and education in the graphic arts industry by
developing best practices that reflect the influence and impact of new technologies in the workflow of the industry.
A company having a G7 Master Printer status indicates the company has calibrated its processes to print quality and maintain that quality in Colormetrics and Gray Balance. The company is also able to produce digital proofs and maintain that color on the printed sheet within tight tolerances.
For companies certified as being a G7 Master Facility are simple. Your print products are consistent which helps maintain the integrity of your customers brand and as such retain these valued customers. Your customer base will increase especially now that international print buyers are seeking printers who have a G7 certification. Lastly having a consistent process will ultimately reflect in costs savings in material and time.
Learning Objectives:
To define the present condition of the pre-press CtP and the press to equipment
manufacturers specifications so that there are no unexpected surprises which may fail or
delay the calibration process more than necessary.
The G7 certification is based on Colorimetrics and Gray Balance. The team who will be
involved in the calibration process, must have a thorough understanding of color and color
measurement and the tools used, thus help them to understand and follow the calibration
process. The added benefit for your staff will be the ability do this calibration work themselves to maintain the consistent quality of print output.
A checklist of consumables, press settings, pressure settings, conductivity readings etc,
provides the workers, management, and the G7 auditor with the press fitness and condition of the equipment to identify the necessary adjustments to be made, to optimize the print quality in preparation for the G7 certification.
