Introduction:
Among the new provisions is Section 29(a) of the OSHA Amendment which requires an employer who employs five or more employees at the workplace to employ and train an OSH Coordinator. The penalty for contravention of the requirement to appoint an OSH Coordinator, or a SHO (where
applicable) is a fine not exceeding RM50,000.00 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both.
Each employee required to appoint at least one OSH-Coordinator to manage Occupational Safety and Health requirements, assist the employer by reporting OSH statistics and performance to DOSH, promote safety culture at the workplace, and take reasonable action pertaining to OSH compliance.
